The right question isn't 'what might I use' but 'what will I actually use'. Most heavy luggage holds items packed 'just in case' and never opened during the whole trip.
The criterion for deciding what to bring
For each item, ask yourself: can I easily find it at the destination if I need it? If the answer is yes (a generic charger, a basic item of clothing, a common pharmacy product), it's often not worth the weight and space in the suitcase.
- Dress in layers rather than single heavy garments: they adapt better to different climates and situations
- Bring only the medicines that aren't easily found abroad or that you use regularly, in their original packaging
- One good-quality universal adapter is worth more than three different specific adapters
Documents and valuables: separate, not together
Never keep your passport, cards and cash all in the same place. In case of loss or theft, splitting them reduces the damage: you lose one thing, not everything.
Carry-on: what should always be in it
Whatever the destination, some items in your carry-on make the difference if your checked bag is lost or delayed.
- An essential change of clothes and underwear for at least a day
- Indispensable medicines and original travel documents
- A charger and a charged power bank
